[0002] Field of the invention
[0003] [001] The present invention refers to a compact, low-cost, robust and versatile optical rosette termination box to define a termination point in an internal environment of a telecommunications network of the FTTx type, which allows the connection between a drop cable and an optical cable from an optical network terminal or modem, installed at the user's home.
[0005] Background of the invention
[0006] [002] The termination box or optical rosette of the present invention is of the type that is generally fixed to a wall or other support structure within the user's home to receive a drop cable at the end of which a respective connector is incorporated that is connects inside the termination box to a terminal configured to receive the terminal connector of an optical cable from the network terminal or modem of the user of the optical network.
[0007] [003] While commonly used, so-called optical termination boxes, known as optical rosettes, have a tray-shaped base with dimensions that allow an extension of one or more drop cables to be wrapped and retained within a pattern. given dimensional, while the end of each drop cable is provided with a respective connector and terminal assembly housed inside the base, which is previously closed with a cover of dimensions compatible with those of the tray-shaped base.
[0008] The aforementioned type of construction results in relatively compact and expensive optical rosettes or termination boxes, due to the internal elements of the base, necessary to house and retain the drop cable extensions.
[0009] [005] In addition to the aforementioned drawbacks, these known rosettes require a slower and more careful operation in order to house and retain the drop cable extension (s) within the base of the tray and a specific arrangement during the assembly of the the cover against the base, which requires the latter to be fixed to the wall or support structure under a specific position to prevent the cover, when assembled, from being upside down.
[0010] [006] Another drawback of these known optical rosettes is that their base is designed according to the type of drop cable, an extension of which is housed and retained within the tray, which limits the versatility of applying these optical rosettes to different standards and gauges of drop cables.
[0011] [007] An example of a termination box of the type described herein can be found in Brazilian patent PI1107334-9 A2.
[0013] Summary of the invention
[0014] In consideration of the aforementioned aspects, the present invention aims to provide a termination box or optical rosette of relatively small dimensions, of low manufacturing cost, which allows an easy and safe axial retention of different standards and gauges of drop cables, to define a termination point in an internal environment of a telecommunications network and its connection to an optical cable of an optical network terminal or modem, installed in the user's home.
[0015] [009] The present invention also aims to provide a termination box or optical rosette that, in addition to having the aforementioned functional characteristics, allows a suitable final positioning for the cover, even if the base is fixed to its support structure in an inverted position.

[0023] [015] Figure 5 represents a cross-sectional view of the box, taken along the lines VV in Figure 1, illustrating the interaction of the retention elements between the lid and the base of the rosette.
[0025] Description of the invention
[0026] [016] As illustrated in the aforementioned drawings, the termination box or optical rosette in question is used to house and retain a drop cable (CD) and a connection terminal (TC) where a terminal connector (CE) is connected of the drop cable (CD) and a terminal plug (PE) of an optical cable from the network terminal or user modem of the optical network.
[0027] [017] According to the invention, the optical box or rosette comprises a base 10 in the form of an elongated rectangular plate, made of a non-conductive material of electricity, for example, a polymer, which is then mounted and fixed to a wall or any other support structure (not illustrated).
[0028] [018] The base 10 has a first and a second end edge 11,12, a pair of longitudinal edges 13, and a front face 10a incorporating, together with the first end edge 11 and generally in a single piece, a jaw 20 , in the form of a longitudinal channel C with side walls 21 incorporating teeth 22 projecting radially into the longitudinal channel and inclined in the direction of the second end edge 12 of the base 10. The jaw 20 is dimensioned to receive and retain, axially, in its interior and by means of the teeth 22, a respective extension of a lowering cable (CD) which can be defined by a "low friction indoor micro cable", a compact "low friction lowering cable". friction ", or even a 3mm circular drop optical cable.
[0029] [019] The construction of the jaw 20, provided with teeth 22 that act against the outer layer of the drop cable inserted in said longitudinal channel C, allows the retention of these cables in the jaw 20 to support greater axial tensile loads, by For example, on the order of 100N for “low friction indoor micro cables”, compact “low friction” drop cables and 3mm circular “drop” cables.
[0030] [020] A front face 10a, of the base 10, also incorporates, together with the second end edge 12, a pair of lateral jaws 30, which project in an upward direction and are elastically deformable from an operative position in which they lock the terminal connection terminal TC against the front face 10a of the base 10, to a non-operative position, in which they release the connection terminal TC.
[0031] [021] The optical box or rosette further comprises a cover 60, generally made of a non-conductive material of electricity having a front wall 61, end walls 62 opposed to each other and longitudinal walls 63, lateral and opposed to each other.
[0032] [022] Each of the end walls 62 is provided with a window 62a, one of which, when the cover 60 is mounted against the base 10, surrounds a (terminal) portion of the jaw 20, while the other window 62a surrounds a portion of the connection terminal TC that, in general, projects out of the cover 60, through the respective window 62a.
[0033] [023] Cover 60 is constructed to have the rear edges of end 62 and longitudinal 63 walls supported and non-permanently locked to front face 10a of base 10, as illustrated in Figures 2 and 5.
[0034] [024] So that the cover 60 can be non-permanently locked against the front face 10a of the base 10, the longitudinal edges 13 of the base can each be provided, for example, with a pair of locking tabs 15 , incorporated in a single piece to the base 10 and longitudinally separated from each other and withdrawn towards the inside of the edge of the base 10, on each of which a projection 65 embedded internally in each longitudinal wall 63 of the cover 60, as best illustrated in figure 5.
[0035] [025] According to an illustrated embodiment, the portion of the jaw 20, surrounded by the window 62a of the respective terminal wall 62 of the cover 60, has a contour equal to the portion of the connection terminal TC surrounded by the window 62a of the respective other end wall 62 of the cover 60. This configuration allows the cover to be mounted in two opposite positions against the base 10, that is, in the most suitable position for reading the identifying inscriptions, independently of the inversion of the fixing position of the base 10 in the support structure of the box or rosette. Therefore, the windows 62a of the two end walls 62 of the cover 60 are the same and open at the rear edge of said end walls 62a.
[0036] [026] Continuing with the illustrated embodiment, the front face 10a of the base 10 can incorporate, centered, two ribs 16, parallel to each other, where the terminal connector CE of the drop cable CD is supported and guided when it is connected to the connection terminal TC locked against the front face 10a of the base 10.
[0037] [027] To fix the base 10 to a wall or support structure, the base 10 can have, for example, two through holes 17 dimensioned to receive the respective fixing screws which are not illustrated or even a double adhesive tape can be used. face that is not illustrated either.
[0038] [028] With the construction proposed here, the base 10 is initially fixed against the support structure and then receives and blocks, by means of the lateral jaws 30, the terminal of TC connection. Then, the drop cable, which already has the CE terminal connector in place, is inserted into the end of the TC connection terminal and a part of its extension is fitted into the longitudinal channel C of the jaw 20, so that the teeth 22 These will interfere with the outer layer of the CD drop cable, ensuring a robust axial retention of the cable in the box or rosette.
[0039] [029] After the aforementioned box and cable assembly operations, the user can connect the PE terminal plug of his CO optical cable at the end of the TC connection terminal which is accessed through the respective window 62a of cover 60.
[0040] [030] Although only one configuration of the termination box or optical rosette of the invention has been illustrated, it should be understood that changes in shape and arrangement of the components can be introduced, without departing from the constructive concept defined in the claims that accompany the present memory.
